Four DMACC Women's Basketball Players Earn All-Region Honors

Four members of the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's basketball team have been named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI Division II Women's All-Region Basketball Team.

 

Sophomore Molly Michell was named to the first team, sophomores Joniqua Clark of Cedar Rapids and Beth Atwood of Packwood earned second-team honors and sophomore Regan Shockley of Hartley was named to the third team.

 

Mitchell led DMACC in scoring this season, averaging 13.8 points a game. She shot 51 percent from the field, hitting 170 of 331 field goal attempts. Mitchell was 2-of-4 from three-point range and made 86 of 132 free throws for 65 percent. Michell also led the Bears in rebounding with 275, including 186 defensive rebounds. She averaged 8.9 rebounds a game and was second in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) in rebounding and field goal percentage. Mitchell's season also included 41 assists, 41 steals and 32 blocked shots.

 

Clark averaged 13 points a game behind 36 percent field goal shooting (97-of-269). She shot 30 percent from three-point range (26-of-86) and was 78 of 125 from the free throw line for 62 percent. Clark led DMACC in assists with 126 and also had 57 steals and two blocked shots. She finished the season with 92 rebounds, including 72 defensive rebounds.

 

Atwood averaged 8.7 points and 7.7 rebounds a game for DMACC this season. She shot 53 percent from the field, hitting 95 of 180 field goal attempts, including 11-of-34 from three-point range for 32 percent. Atwood made 77 of 97 free throw attempts for 79 percent and was second to Mitchell in rebounding with 247, including 168 defensive rebounds. Her season also included 39 assists, 35 steals and three blocked shots.

 

Shockley averaged 10.7 points and 2.5 rebounds a game. She shot 33 percent from the field, making 115 of 354 field goal attempts, including 65 of 191 three-point attempts for 34 percent. Shockley made 48 of 59 free throw attempts for 81 percent. She finished the season with 81 rebounds, including 70 defensive rebounds, and also had 56 assists and 28 steals.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team finished the season at 20-12 and was 7-7 in the ICCAC, good for fifth place.
