DMACC Women's Basketball Coach Steve Krafcisin Achieves Milestone Win

Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's basketball coach Steve Krafcisin achieved a coaching milestone January 20th when his team upset Southeastern Community College (SECC), 73-61, inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

The win was the 400th of Krafcisin's 21-year coaching career. Krafcisin, who is in his 13th season as the DMACC women's head coach, has a career record of 402-249.

 

"I owe it all to the fine men and women who have let me be their head coach," Krafcisin said. "I hope my current and former players will be proud to know of our accomplishments."

 

Krafcisin, who served as an assistant to Iowa State University head coaches Johnny Orr and Tim Floyd, began his head coaching career in 1997 when he became the men's basketball coach at North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC). He got his first career victory on Nov. 7, 1997, when the Trojans defeated Highland (Kan,) Community College (HCC) and went on to compile a 112-136 record in eight seasons at NIACC.

 

Krafcisin became the head DMACC women's coach in 2005 and has a career record of 290-113 with the Bears. His 2017-18 team is 17-5 and is ranked 14th in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team, 5-1 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC), faces Kirkwood Community College (KCC) Feb. 3 in Cedar Rapids. The Eagles, ranked second in NJCAA Division II, are 20-3 overall and lead the ICCAC at 5-0.
