Clark's 30 Points Lead DMACC Women Past KCKCC

Sophomore Joniqua Clark of Cedar Rapids scored a season-high 30 points, grabbed four rebounds and dished out five assists to lead the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's basketball team to a 76-67 win over Kansas City (Kan.) Community College (KCKCC) December 14 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Clark drained nine of 19 field goal attempts, including 3-of-6 from three-point range, and made nine of her 10 free throw attempts as the Bears improved to 11-3 for the season.

 

The game closed out the December portion of the 2017-18 schedule.

 

KCKCC came into the game ranked 17th in National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II. DMACC is receiving votes in the poll.

 

The Bears maintained the lead throughout the game. They were ahead 15-12 at the end of the first quarter and 37-26 at halftime. Their advantage at the end of three quarters was 58-45.

 

DMACC shot 48 percent in the win, hitting 29 of 61 field goal attempts, including 4-of-12 from three-point range. The Bears were 14-of-21 from the free throw line. Sophomores Molly Mitchell of Okoboji and Beth Atwood of Packwood also reached double figures in the game, scoring 19 and 15 points respectively.

 

Mitchell grabbed 10 rebounds to record a double-double in the win as KCKCC came away with a 52-33 advantage on the boards. Atwood led the Bears in steals with four and freshman Deja Davis of Omaha, Neb., had three steals.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will face the Mount Mercy University junior varsity on Jan. 7 at Cedar Rapids.
