Clark Leads DMACC Women Past Southeast, 88-83

Sophomore Joniqua Clark of Cedar Rapids scored 23 points, grabbed five rebounds, dished out five assists and had three steals to lead the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's basketball team to an 88-83 win over Southeastern (Neb.) Community College (SECC) December 2 at Beatrice, Neb.

 

Sophomore Molly Mitchell of Okoboji scored 16 points and sophomores Regan Shockley of Hartley and Beth Atwood of Packwood tallied 13 points apiece as the Bears improved to 9-2 for the season.

 

The game was close all the way. The two teams were tied at 22 at the end of the first quarter and SECC led 44-43 at halftime. DMACC had a 66-64 advantage at the end of three quarters.

 

The Bears shot 39 percent in the win, connecting of 30 of 77 field goal attempts. They were 8-of-21 from three-point range and 20-of-29 from the free throw line.

 

Mitchell earned a double-double with 13 rebounds, leading DMACC to a 49-42 advantage on the boards. Atwood and freshman Deja Davis of Omaha, Neb., grabbed six rebounds apiece and freshman Emma Rouse of Boone joined Clark with five assists.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will host the William Penn University junior varsity on Dec. 7. Game time is 6 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium.
