DMACC men's cross country team is second in season-opening meet
  • Freshman Jordan King leads DMACC with a ninth-place finish
  • Four DMACC runners place 11th through 14th
  • All seven DMACC runners place in the top 20

 

The DMACC men's cross country team began the 2023 fall season August 30 in the Bill Buxton Invitational at Indianola and brought home a second-place finish.

 

Simpson College (SC) captured the team championship with 18 points and DMACC scored 59 points in finishing second. The Bears finished 25 points in front of third-place Southwestern Community College (SWCC) and were 32 points ahead of fourth-place Graceland University (GU).

 

SC's Spencer Moon took individual honors with a time of 17 minutes, 34 seconds over the 6K course.

 

Freshman Jordan King of Boone led DMACC with a ninth-place finish in 20:05 as all seven runners finished in the top 20. Freshmen Joe Torrones of Marshalltown, Will Thompson of West Des Moines, Ray Gearhart of Oelwein and Alejandro Bernal of Sibley placed 11th through 14th respectively. Terrones' time was 20:34, Thompson posted a time of 20:35, Gearhart crossed the finish line in 20:41 and Bernal was also timed in 20:41.

 

Freshmen Jesse Washington of Parkersburg and Grant Harrison of Des Moines rounded out DMACC's performance with 18th- and 19th-place finishes. Washington's time was 22:35 and Harrison crossed the finish line in 22:37.

 

The DMACC men's cross country team will run in the Trent Smith Invitational Sept. 15th at Mason City.
