DMACC men's golf team finishes second in Iowa Central tourney

The DMACC men's golf team came away with a second-place finish in the Iowa Central Spring Invite April 7 and 8 at the Fort Dodge Country Club in Fort Dodge.

 

The Bears posted a 36-hole score of 597 and finished nine strokes behind the winning total of 588 by Iowa Central Community College (ICCC). DMACC shot 296 on the tournament's first day and trailed ICCC by one stroke. The Tritons shot 293 to DMACC's 301 in the second round and got the win.

 

ICCC's Austin Erickson took medalist honors with a one-under-par 141. Erickson turned in rounds of 71 and 70 over the par 71 layout and finished three strokes ahead of teammate Justin Schipper.

 

DMACC was led by freshman Spencer Clatt of Gilbert. Clatt shot rounds of 74 and 73 for a two-day total of 147 and tied for third. Freshman Calvin McNeeley of Pleasant Hill and sophomore Sam Vertanen of Ames also garnered top ten finishes. McNeeley posted scores of 73 and 75 for a 148 total and a sixth-place finish and Vertanen tied for ninth behind rounds of 72 and 79 for a 36-hole score of 151.

 

Other DMACC results included a tie for 19th by freshman Kaleb Allen of West Burlington. Freshmen Drake Anderson of Sargeant Bluff and Cole Johnson of Sioux City and sophomore Ethan Gillis of Pickering, Ontario, Canada tied for 27th and freshman Layden Losh of Boone finished in a tie for 37th. Freshman Cade McGill of Johnston closed out the Bears' performance with a tie for 46th place.

Allen shot two rounds of 77 for a two-day total of 154 and Anderson, Johnson and Gilles finished at 157. Anderson posted rounds of 78 and 79, Johnson shot 75 and 82 and Gillis shot 81 and 76. Losh's tie for 37 came on rounds of 77 and 83 for a two-day total of 160 and McGill turned in scores of 85 and 80 for a 165.

 

The DMACC men's golf team will play in the Grand View Invite April 12 at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny.
