DMACC men's golf team finishes fifth in Ron Streck Invitational
  • Sophomore Sam Vertanen leads DMACC with an eight-place finish

 

 

 

The DMACC men's golf team came away with a fifth-place finish in the Ron Streck Invitational which concluded March 14 at Meadowbrook Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.

 

The Bears posted a 307 on the second day to go with a 320 in their opening round and finished the 36-hole tournament with 627 strokes. Evangel University (EU) won the team championship with 605 strokes and Troy Schulz of Hope International (HI) took medalist honors with a two-under-par 144. Schulz turned in a three-over-par 74 in the second round go to with a 70 from the first round.

 

Sophomore Sam Vertanen of Ames led DMACC with an eighth-place finish. Vertanen shot a one-over-par 72 in the second round and finished with a 36-hole score of 150.

 

DMACC freshman Kaleb Allen of West Burlington tied for tenth place with a two-day total of 153. Allen shot a six-over-par 77 in the second round after opening with a 76.

 

Other DMACC results saw freshman Spencer Clatt of Gilbert finish in 24th place, freshman Cade McGill of Johnston tied for 32nd and sophomore Ethan Gillis of Pickering, Ontario, Canada and freshman Layden Losh of Boone tied for 37th. Freshman Cole Johnson of Sioux City rounded out DMACC's performance with a 44th-place finish.

 

Clatt shot a 78 in the second round for a 36-hole score of 159 and McGill posted an 81 on the second day to finish with a 36-hole score of 166. Gillis and Losh shot 80 and 82 respectively in the second round and closed at 167 and Johnson turned in an 86 in his second round for a two-day score of 170.

 

The DMACC men's golf team will be idle until March 28 and 29 when the Bears will play in the Cougar Spring Preview at Metamora Fields Golf Club in Metamora, Ill.
