DMACC men's golf team finishes fourth in Columbia Spring Invite

 

The DMACC men's golf team began the 2022-23 spring season with a fourth-place finish in the Columbia Spring Invite March 6 at the Columbia Country Club in Columbia, Mo.

 

The Bears shot an 18-hole score of 309 in their spring debut. William Woods University (WWU) took the team championship with 295 strokes and Columbia College (CC), the host team, finished second with 297 strokes.

 

CC's Sean Minor took medalist honors with a two-under-par 69.

 

DMACC was led by sophomore Sam Vertanen of Ames. Vertanen shot a 74 and tied for seventh place in the individual competition. Freshman Spencer Clatt of Gilbert tied for tenth after posting a 76.

 

Other DMACC results saw sophomore Ethan Gills of Pickering, Ontario, Canada tie for 23rd and freshman Kaleb Allen of West Burlington finished in 26th place. Gillis posted a 79 and Allen turned in an 80.

 

DMACC got a 27th-place tie from freshman Cade McGill of Johnston and freshman Cole Johnson of Sioux City tied for 31st. McGill shot an 81 and Johnson posted an 83.

 

The DMACC men's golf team is scheduled to play in the Ron Streck Invitational March 13 and 14 at Meadowbrook Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.
