DMACC men's golf team finishes second in Jim Curell Invitational
  • Freshman Spencer Clatt finishes second in the individual competition
  • Sophomore Sam Vertanen ties for fourth
  • Freshman Calvin McNeeley places 13th

 

The DMACC men's golf team garnered a second-place finish in the Jim Curell Invitational October 12 at the Ames Golf and Country Club in Ames.

 

Kirkwood Community College (KCC) took the team championship with 602 strokes over 36 holes and DMACC shot 621 in placing second. The Bears turned in 18-hole scores of 303 and 318.

 

KCC's Gannon Hall took medalist honors with a five-over-par 147 on rounds of 72 and 75 over the par 71 layout. DMACC's Spencer Clatt of Gilbert finished second at 148 behind a pair of 74s.

 

DMACC got a tie for fourth from sophomore Sam Vertanen of Ames and freshman Calvin McNeeley of Pleasant Hill finished in 13th place. Vertanen posted scores of 69 and 82 for a 151 total and McNeeley shot rounds of 73 and 84 to finish at 157.

 

Other DMACC results saw freshmen Kaleb Allen of West Burlington and Drake Anderson of Sargeant Bluff tie for 16th. Allen shot rounds of 83 and 78 for a 36-hole score of 161 and Anderson posted scores of 77 and 84 for his 161.

 

DMACC freshman Cole Johnson of Sioux City finished 22nd with a score of 165, freshman Cade McGill of Johnston was 25th with 167 strokes, sophomore Ethan Gillis of Pickering, Ontario, Canada was 28th at 169 and freshman Layden Losh of Boone was 32nd with a score of 173. Johnson shot rounds of 79 and 86, McGill turned in scores of 82 and 85, Gillis had 18 hole scores of 85 and 84 and Losh shot 87 and 86.

 

The DMACC men's golf team will close out the fall season in the Region XI Fall Preview Oct. 17 and 18 at Lake Panorama National Golf Course in Panora.
