DMACC men's golf team climbs into tie for seventh place in national championship
  • Sophomore Dylan Ellis of Aplington moves into the top 10 with a 1-under-par 71 in the third round
  • Freshman Tyler Sansgaard of Nevada and sophomore Joe Dean of Cedar Falls shoot 73 and 76 respectively

The DMACC men's golf team climbed from 11th place into a tie for seventh place following the third round in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Championship May 20 at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, Ind.

 

The Bears turned in a tournament best 300 in the third round and moved into a tie for seventh place with Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC). Both teams have a 54-hole total of 913.

 

Parkland College (PC) shot a 298 in the third round and moved into first place with 874 strokes, one stroke better than South Mountain Community College (SMCC), which led after each of the first two rounds. SMCC's Cecil Belisle continues to lead the individual competition at 210 after posting a 75 in the third round. Belisle has a three-shot lead over Riley Brown of Glendale Community College (GCC), Geronimo Narizzano of Southeast Community College (SECC) and James Morgan of Kirkwood Community College (KCC).

 

Sophomore Dylan Ellis of Aplington, who led DMACC in each of the first two rounds, did it again in the third round, shooting a 1-under-par 71 for a 54-hole score of 210. He is 10th in the individual competition.

Other third round scores for the Bears included a 73 by freshman Tyler Sansgaard of Nevada, a 76 by sophomore Joe Dean of Cedar Falls, an 80 by sophomore Trevor Heinen of Waterloo and an 85 by freshman Logan Barnes of Altoona. Sansgaard is tied for 17th place, Dean is tied for 54th and Barnes is tied for 88th. Heinen, who replaced sophomore Ryan Leath of Glenwood in the third round, is tied for 120th.

 

The tournament concludes today at Swan Lake Resort. DMACC and GRCC are five strokes ahead of ninth place SECC. DMACC trails Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) rival KCC by 12 strokes and is 31 strokes behind ICCAC rival Iowa Central Community College (ICCC). ICCC is third in the team standings with 883 strokes and KCC is fifth with 902 strokes.
