DMACC men's golf team finishes third in Region XI Invitational
  • DMACC totals 954 strokes over 54 holes to finish behind Kirkwood Community College and Iowa Central Community College
  • Sophomore Dylan Ellis of Aplington leads the Bears with a tie for sixth place
  • Sophomores Joe Dean of Cedar Falls and Ryan Leath of Glenwood and freshman Tyler Sansgaard of Nevada finish 12th, 16th and 27th respectively

 

The DMACC men's golf team came away with a third-place finish in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI Invitational May 1 and 2 at Blue Top Ridge Golf Course in Riverside.

 

The Bears shot a 54-hole score of 954 to finish behind Kirkwood Community College (KCC) and Iowa Central Community College (ICCC). KCC won the title with 901 strokes and ICCC was second at 903. KCC's James Morgan took medalist honors with a 218 on rounds of 70, 76 and 72 over the par 72 layout.

 

KCC, ICCC and DMACC all qualified for the NJCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship May 18 to 21 at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, Ind.

 

DMACC was led by sophomore Dylan Ellis of Aplington, who tied for sixth with a 54-hole score of 229. Ellis posted rounds of 79, 76 and 74.

 

Other DMACC results included a 12th-place finish by sophomore Joe Dean of Cedar Falls; a 16th-place finish by sophomore Ryan Leath of Glenwood; and a tie for 27th by freshman Tyler Sansgaard of Nevada.

 

Dean shot rounds of 75, 85 and 79 for a 239 total and Leath posted scores of 80, 83 and 82 for a 54-hole total of 245. Sansgaard's tie for 27th came on rounds of 79, 84 and 89 for a 252.

 

DMACC freshman Logan Barnes of Altoona and sophomore Trevor Heinen of Waterloo also competed in the tournament but did not finish all 54 holes. Barnes shot an 81 in the first round and a 78 in the second round and Heinen posted an 88 in the second round.
