DMACC men's golf team finishes second in Red Tail Shootout

  • Sophomore Dylan Ellis of Aplington leads DMACC with a 36-hole score of 145 and ties for fourth
  • DMACC Sophomore Joe Dean of Cedar Falls and freshman Logan Barnes of Altoona tie for tenth

 

Sophomore Dylan Ellis of Aplington carded a 1-over-par 145 over 36 holes to lead the DMACC men's golf team to a second-place finish in the Red Tail Shootout April 22 at Fox Ridge Golf Club in Dike.

 

Kirkwood Community College (KCC) won the team championship with a two-round total of 579 and DMACC posted a 596 in finishing second. KCC's James Morgan took medalist honors with a 6-under-par 138 over the par 72 layout.

 

Ellis shot rounds of 76 and 69 to tie for fourth place.

 

DMACC sophomore Joe Dean of Cedar Falls and freshman Logan Barnes of Altoona tied for tenth place with 7-over-par 151s. Dean turned in rounds of 76 and 75 and Barnes shot 75 and 76.

 

Other DMACC results saw sophomore Trevor Heinen of Waterloo finish in 13th place and freshman Jack West of Winterset tied for 14th. Freshman Tyler Sansgaard of Nevada and sophomore Ryan Leath of Glenwood tied for 16th and freshman Ryan Nichols of Ogden placed 33rd.

 

Heinen shot 152 on rounds of 79 and 73 and West posted scores of 76 and 77 for a 153. Sansgaard and Leath finished with 36-hole scores of 154. Sansgaard shot rounds of 79 and 75 and Leath turned in rounds of 74 and 80. Nichols finished at 183 with scores of 91 and 92.

 

The tournament wrapped up the regular season for the DMACC men's golf team. The Bears will play in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI Championship May 1 and 2 at Blue Top Ridge Golf Course in Riverside.
