DMACC men's golf team finishes 11th in NJCAA DII National Championship

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's golf team came away with an 11th-place finish in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Championship May 21 to 24 at Swan Lake Golf Resort in Plymouth, Ind.

 

The Bears turned in their best round of the tournament on the final day, posting a 301 for a 72-hole total of 1,246 strokes. DMACC finished four strokes behind tenth-place Abraham Baldwin College (ABC) and eight strokes in front of 12th-place Scottsdale Community College (SCC).

 

South Mountain Community College (SMCC) won the team championship with 1,167 strokes and Leon D'Souza of SMCC won individual honors with a four-under-par 284 after shooting a five-under-par 67 on the last day.

 

DMACC was led by freshman Noah Hartman of Slater. Hartman shot a 73 in the final round and finished in a tie for 21st place with a 72-hole score of 303. Sophomore Kolby Chup of Des Moines tied for 38th with a 310 after an even-par 72 in the last round and sophomore Louis Psihoyos of Dubuque tied for 46th with a final score of 312. Psihoyos shot a 79 on the last day.

 

Rounding out DMACC's performance were freshman Dylan Ellis of Aplington and sophomore Dylan Scheffler of Sac City. Ellis shot a 77 in his last round, finishing in a tie for 86th place with a score of 324, and Scheffler tied for 120th place with a 72-hole total of 344. He posted an 89 on the last day.

 

The tournament concluded the 2019 spring season for the DMACC men's golf team.
