DMACC Men's Golf Team Finishes Second in NJCAA Region XI Championship; Qualifies for National Tournament

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's golf team finished second in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI Championship May 5 and 6 at Lake Panorama National Golf Course in Panora.

 

The finish qualifies the Bears for the NJCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship May 21 to 24 at Glenlakes Golf Club in Foley, Ala.

 

Kirkwood Community College (KCC) won the Region XI title with a 36-hole score of 601 and DMACC was second at 612. DMACC posted a score of 299 on the first day and led KCC by a stroke, but the Eagles shot 301 on the second day to DMACC's 313 and came away with their fourth consecutive Region XI championship.

 

KCC's Dawson Peters took medalist honors with a 36-hole total of 147 over the par 72 layout.

 

DMACC was led by sophomore Alec Fuhs of Webster City, who shot rounds of 74 and 76 for a 150, earning a tie for fifth place.

 

Other DMACC results include a tie for eighth by freshman Kolby Chup of Des Moines, a tie for 11th by sophomores Parker Davidson of Pleasant Hill and Robert Flattery of Fort Dodge and a tie for 22nd by sophomore Avery Fuhs of Webster City. Chup shot rounds of 76 and 77 for a 153, Davidson posted scores of 74 and 81 for a 155, Flattery had rounds of 75 and 80 for a 155 and Avery Fuhs turned in rounds of 80 and 81 for a 161.
