The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC men's basketball player Willie Guy the ICCAC Male Student-Athlete of the Year for 2020-21.

Guy, a sophomore from Cedar Rapids, is the first member of the DMACC men's basketball team and the first DMACC male student-athlete to receive the award. Softball players Molly Jacobson and Mia Ruther received the award in 2017-18 and 2018-19 respectively.

"For two years, Willie has been a face of our program on and off the floor," DMACC athletic director BJ McGinn said. "The work he has done with youth in Boone as well as his community back home is admirable. Obviously, his play speaks for itself but he has represented himself in a first-class manner on and off the floor. We're proud of all the things he's accomplished as a player and a young man."

The award is another in a list of achievements for Guy this season. He has been named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II All-American First Team and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) NJCAA Division II All-American Team. Guy, who has signed a national letter of intent to attend North Dakota State University, was also named to the NJCAA Region XI All-Region First Team.

Guy led DMACC to a 21-5 season, the Bears' second consecutive Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) regular season championship and the school's first-ever NJCAA Division II men's basketball championship. He was named the national tournament's MVP after completing play with 62 points, 34 assists, 20 rebounds, 10 steals and just 13 turnovers over four games.

Guy led DMACC in scoring and assists this season with 337 points and 166 assists. He averaged 13 points a game and shot 45 percent from the field, hitting 107 of 237 field goal attempts. Guy was 25-of-63 from three-point range and made 98 of 114 free throw attempts. In addition to his 166 assists, he grabbed 125 rebounds, including 104 defensive rebounds, and led the Bears in steals with 40.

Guy, who was also the ICCAC Division II Men's Basketball Player of the Year, finished third nationally in assists and came one vote shy of being named the NJCAA Division II Men's Basketball Player of the Year.

Off the floor, Guy has been involved on campus and in the Boone community in numerous ways, assisting at school and youth athletic events and reading to kids at local elementary schools.
