DMACC's Willie Guy has been named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II All-American First Team.

 

Guy, a sophomore from Cedar Rapids, is the 11th member of the DMACC men's basketball team to earn All-American honors since 2000. Shelton Colwell earned All-American honorable mention in 2000-01 and was named a first-team All-American in 2001-02; Ian Young received second-team honors in 2002-03; Frashon McGee received honorable mention recognition in 2003-04 and Al Stewart received honorable mention recognition in 2004-05; Grant Burns was named a second-team All-American in 2007-08; third-team honors went to Scott Windon and Nate Mason in 2008-09 and 2011-12 respectively; Brandon Nazione was named a second-team All-American in 2013-14 and Aarias Austin garnered second-team honors in 2014-15; and Tray Buchanan was named a third-team All-American in 2018-19.

 

Guy, a point guard, led DMACC to a 21-5 season, the Bears' second consecutive Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) regular season championship and the school's first-ever NJCAA Division II men's basketball championship. He was named the national tournament's MVP after completing play with 62 points, 34 assists, 20 rebounds, 10 steals and just 13 turnovers over four games.

 

Guy led DMACC in scoring and assists this season with 275 points and 132 assists. He averaged 12.5 points a game and shot 45 percent from the field, hitting 90 of 202 field goal attempts. Guy was 25-of-56 from three-point range and made 73 of 86 free throw attempts. In addition to his 132 assists, he grabbed 105 rebounds, including 87 defensive rebounds, and led the Bears in steals with 34.

 

Guy's season also included being named to the NJCAA Region XI All-Region First Team.
