DMACC's Devin Wade-Henderson named ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II men's basketball
  • Wade-Henderson is the fourth DMACC men's basketball player to be honored by the conference this season
  • Sophomores Willie Guy of Cedar Rapids, Christian Haffner of Gresham, Wis., and Mark Bradshaw of Chester, Penn., have also been honored
  • Wade-Henderson averaged 14.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in two wins as the Bears clinched their second consecutive ICCAC regular-season title

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC men's basketball player Devin Wade-Henderson the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II men's basketball for the week of March 29 to April 4.

 

Wade-Henderson, a sophomore from Minneapolis, Minn., is the fourth member of the DMACC men's basketball team to be honored this season. Sophomore Willie Guy of Cedar Rapids received the honor for the week of Feb. 1 to 7, sophomore Christian Haffner was honored the week of Feb. 22 to 28 and sophomore Mark Bradshaw was honored for the week of March 22 to 28.

 

Wade-Henderson averaged 14.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists as DMACC recorded wins against Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) and Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) to clinch their second consecutive ICCAC regular-season championship.

 

Wade-Henderson had 15 points, 11 rebounds, two assists and a steal in a 91-83 win over ICCC and scored 14 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, dished out three assists and had a steal in an 86-84 win over IWCC.

 

Wade-Henderson is averaging 6.5 points and five rebounds a game for DMACC this season. He has scored 136 points and is shooting 41 percent from the field, having made 43 of 105 field goal attempts. He is 2-of-13 from three-point range and 48-of-64 from the free throw line. His season also includes 104 rebounds, including 65 defensive rebounds, 20 assists, eight steals and three blocked shots.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team, 17-5, and ranked third in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, lost to Ellsworth Community College (ECC), 66-64, in the quarterfinals of the NJCAA Region XI basketball tournament April 6 inside the DMACC gymnasium. The Bears were the tournament's No. 1 seed and ECC was seeded eighth.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will not play again until the NJCAA Division II April 20 to 24 at Danville, Ill., The Bears qualified for the national tournament in 2020, but were unable to play after the tournament was cancelled. They were invited to play in 2021 because of last year's cancellation.
