DMACC's Christian Haffner named ICCAC Athlete of the Week
  • Haffner averaged 19.5 points in wins over Indian Hills Community College (IHCC) and Southeastern Community College (SECC)
  • Haffner shot 56 percent from the field and 61.5 percent from three-point range
  • Haffner leads the ICCAC in three-point shooting at 47.3 percent

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Christian Haffner the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II men's basketball for the week of February 22 to 28.

 

Haffner, a sophomore from Gresham, Wis., led the DMACC men's basketball team to a pair of victories over Division I opponents during the week. He scored 15 points in a 75-64 win over Indian Hills Community College (IHCC) February 23 at Ottumwa and tallied 24 points in an 82-72 win over Southeastern Community College (SECC) Feb. 27 at West Burlington. Haffner was 3-of-5 from three-point range in the win over IHCC and made five of eight attempts from beyond the arc against SECC.

 

Haffner has scored 149 points this season and leads the Bears in scoring with a 13.5 average. He is shooting 50 percent from the field, having made 47 of 95 field goal attempts. Haffner has made 25 of 74 three-point attempts for 47 percent and is 20-of-23 from the free throw line for 87 percent. He leads the ICCAC in three-point percentage.

 

Haffner's season also includes 30 rebounds, including 24 defensive rebounds, 18 assists and five steals. His assist to turnover ratio is 2.0.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team, 9-2 and ranked first in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, is home to Southwestern Community College (SWCC) tonight. SWCC is 6-6 on the season. One of the Spartans' six wins is a 70-58 win over DMACC Feb. 10 at Creston. The Bears were ranked second in NJCAA Division II at the time.
