Balanced Attack Leads Bears Past #13 Iowa Lakes

The DMACC men's basketball team, ranked 5th in the nation according to the latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NCJAA) Division II poll, defeated number 13th ranked Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC), 71-62 at the Boone Gymnasium.  DMACC is now 3-1 on the year, while ILCC falls to 2-2.

Cedar Rapids sophomore Willie Guy led a balanced scoring attack by the Bears with 18 points and handed out six assists.  Sophomore Zach Hobbs of Mesa, AZ chipped in 14 points, followed by Ryan Schmitt of Van Meter with 12 and Mark Bradshaw of Chester, PA with 11 points. Jean Francois of Coral Springs, FL scored five points to go along with a team high 10 rebounds and five blocked shots.

 

DMACC led 32-29 at halftime and led by as many as ten points late in the second half.  The Bears connected on 46.7 percent of their field goal attempts and made 10 of 22 three-point shots for 45.5%.  DMACC made 19 of 30 free throws for 63.3 percent.  

 

DMACC's three wins so far this year have all come against nationally ranked teams.  The lone loss was a two-point lost to Marshalltown Community College.    

  

DMACC (3-1), travels to Fort Dodge to play number 14 ranked Iowa Central Community College (3-1) on Wednesday, February 3 for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
