DMACC Men Comeback Falls Short Against Marshalltown

The DMACC men's basketball team, ranked 5th in the nation according to the latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NCJAA) Division II poll, suffered its first loss of the season when Marshalltown Community (MCC) defeated the Bears 90-88 on Wed., Jan. 27th, on the road in Marshalltown.

DMACC trailed 43-35 at halftime and outscored Marshalltown in the second half, but fell to MCC by two points.

Sophomore Zach Hobbs of Mesa, Ariz., led the Bears with 17 points, followed by Mark Bradshaw of Chester, Pa. with 16, sophomore Willie Guy of Cedar Rapids with 15, Christian Haffner of Gresham, Wis., with 14, and Van Meter sophomore Ryan Schmitt with 13. Devin Wade-Henderson of Minneapolis and Jean Francois of Coral Springs, Fla. rounded out the scoring for the Bears with 7 and 6 points, respectively.

Schmitt led the Bears in rebounds with 10 and also had four blocked shots.

Marshalltown connected on 14 three-pointers, shooting 52 percent beyond the three-point line. DMACC made 47 percent of their field goal attempts and 7 of 19 of their three-point attempts, but connected on just 17 of 32 free throws for 53 percent. Rebounds were nearly identical, with DMACC grabbing 32 boards and MCC getting 31. 

DMACC, now 2-1 on the season, will host Iowa Lakes Community College (2-1) on Sat., Jan. 30th. Tipoff is at 3 p.m., and the game will be livestreamed at dmaccbears.com/livestream.
