DMACC’S TRAY BUCHANAN NAMED TO NJCAA REGION XI FIRST TEAM

Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's basketball player Tray Buchanan, a sophomore from East Moline, Ill., has been named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI All-Region First Team.

 

Sophomores DeShawn Davidson of Waukegan, Ill., and Dyllan Robinson of Las Vegas, Nev., were named to the second team and sophomores Devonta Prince of Brooklyn Center, Minn., and Quinton Taylor of Cedar Point, Texas, received honorable mention recognition.

 

Buchanan led the Bears in scoring this season, coming away with 602 points and averaging 19.4 points a game. He ranked third in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) in scoring. Buchanan shot 46 percent from the field, hitting 180 of 396 field goal attempts. He was 77-of-202 from three-point range for 38 percent and made 165 of 202 free throw attempts for 82 percent. Buchanan's season also included 131 rebounds, including 114 defensive rebounds, 82 assists and a team-high 73 steals.

 

Davidson ranked fourth in the ICCAC in scoring, averaging 17.9 points a game. He finished the season with 538 points and shot 40 percent from the field, draining 176 of 438 field goal attempts. Davidson was 43-of-137 from three-point range for 31 percent and made 143 of 194 free throw attempts for 74 percent. Davidson's season also included 166 rebounds, including 129 defensive rebounds, a team-high 98 assists and 33 steals.

 

Robinson led the Bears in rebounding with 195 rebounds, including 134 defensive rebounds, and averaged 6.1 rebounds a game. He finished the season with 373 points and placed third in the ICCAC in field goal shooting at 64.2 percent on 156 field goals in 243 attempts. Robinson was 7-of-33 from three-point range for 21 percent and made 54 of 97 free throw attempts for 56 percent. Robinson's season also included 50 assists, 17 steals and a team-high 36 blocked shots. He finished third in the ICCAC in blocked shots.

 

Prince finished the season with 230 points, averaging 7.2 points a game. He shot 45 percent from the field, hitting 78-of-172 field goal attempts. Prince was 28-of-74 from three-point range for 38 percent and made 46 of 74 free throw attempts for 62 percent. Prince had 159 rebounds this season, including 123 defensive rebounds. He dished out 68 assists, had 42 steals and blocked 14 shots.

 

Taylor averaged seven points a game for the Bears this season, collecting 218 points. He shot 50 percent from the field, making 80 of 160 field goal attempts.Taylor was 20-of-44 from three-point range for 46 percent and made 38 of 50 free throw attempts for 76 percent. Taylor had 144 rebounds this season, including 110 defensive rebounds. He finished season with 15 assists, 10 steals and 31 blocked shots.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team finished the season at 22-10 following a loss to Kirkwood Community College (KCC) in the semifinals of the NJCAA Region XI Division II Men's Basketball Championship. The Bears were 8-6 in the ICCAC, placing fourth
