Balanced Scoring Lift's DMACC Men's Basketball Team Past NIACC

Sophomore Wali Parks of Iowa City and freshman Lee Higgins of Chicago, Ill., scored 12 points apiece and sophomore Antowine Locke of Bolingbrook, Ill., and freshman Ray Miller of Davenport added 11 and 10 points respectively as the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's basketball team handed North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) a 65-53 loss February 24 at Mason City.

 

The win was the 17th of the season for the Bears against 10 losses. DMACC improved to 3-7 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

The Bears shot 41 percent in defeating NIACC for the second time this season. DMACC was 19-of-46 from the field, including 6-of-21 from three-point range, and made 21 of 29 free throw attempts. The Bears led 31-25 at halftime.

 

Parks grabbed six rebounds and freshmen Devonta Prince of Brooklyn Center, Minn., and Brandon Lawani of Bolingbrook, Ill., had five apiece to lead DMACC to a 44-33 advantage on the boards. Parks led the Bears in assists with five and Higgins topped DMACC in steals with three.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team faces Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) Feb. 28 at Fort Dodge. The Tritons are 18-10 overall and 4-6 in the ICCAC. DMACC came away with a 90-75 win when the two teams played Jan. 31 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
