Iowa Lakes Takes 78-70 Decision from DMACC Men

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's basketball team fell to 16-9 overall and 2-6 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) following a 78-70 loss to Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) February 14 at Estherville.

 

ILCC led 37-32 at halftime and maintained its lead throughout the second half in defeated DMACC for the second time this season. The Bears shot just 28 percent in the loss, making 19 of 68 field goal attempts, including 8-of-21 from three-point range. DMACC was 24-of-35 from the free throw line.

 

Freshman Lee Higgins of Chicago, Ill., led DMACC with 19 points. Sophomore Wali Parks of Iowa City scored 16 points and freshman Elijah Ward of Joliet, Ill., finished with 10 points.

 

The two teams battled to a 37-37 tie on the boards with Ward and freshman Devonta Prince of Brooklyn Center, Minn., leading DMACC with nine and eight rebounds respectively. Higgins topped the Bears in assists with three.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team is idle until Feb. 21 when the Bears host Southwestern Community College (SWCC). Game time is 7:30 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. SWCC, the defending National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II national champion, is 20-6 overall and 5-3 in the ICCAC.
