DMACC Men Falls to Kirkwood, 83-73

Sophomore Wali Parks of Iowa City scored 20 points and freshmen Devonta Prince of Brooklyn Center, Minn., and Elijah Ward of Joliet, Ill., reached double figures with 12 and 11 points respectively as the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's basketball team dropped an 83-73 decision to Kirkwood Community College (KCC) February 3 at Cedar Rapids.

 

The Bears trailed 44-36 at halftime and played catch-up the second half as they fell to 15-7 overall and 2-4 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). KCC, ranked eighth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, improved to 17-4 and maintained its lead in the ICCAC at 6-0.

 

DMACC shot 42 percent in the loss, hitting 27 of 64 field goal attempts. The Bears were 2-of-12 from three-point range and 17-of-32 from the free throw line.

 

Ward achieved a double-double with 10 rebounds as DMACC came away with a 35-33 advantage on the boards. Freshman Brandon Lawani of Bolingbrook, Ill., had seven rebounds and sophomore Antowine Locke of Bolingbrook, Ill., led the Bears in assists with two. Freshmen Lee Higgins of Chicago, Ill., and Ray Miller of Davenport had two steals apiece in the loss.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team is home to the Simpson College junior varsity on Feb. 6. Game time is 7 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium.
