Higgins Leads DMACC Men's Basketball Team Past Southeast(NE), 85-80

Freshman Lee Higgins of Chicago, Ill., led four players in double figures with 21 points as the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's basketball team defeated Southeastern (Neb.) Community College (SECC), 85-80, December 2 at Beatrice, Neb.

 

Sophomore Wali Parks of Iowa City scored 15 points in the win and freshmen DeShawn Davidson of Waukegan, Ill., and Ray Miller of Davenport finished with 12 and 10 points respectively as the Bears improved to 10-2 for the season.

 

DMACC had a 38-31 advantage at halftime and led by as many as 12 points in the second half. The Bears shot 41 percent for the game, hitting 26 of 63 field goal attempts. They were 4-of-21 from three-point range and 29-of-40 from the free throw line.

 

Parks and sophomore Nysir Marshburn of Philadelphia, Penn., pulled down nine rebounds apiece to lift DMACC to a 49-41 advantage on the boards. Freshman Andrew Madison of Grand Rapids, Mich., had seven rebounds and Davidson and freshman Devonta Prince of Brooklyn Center, Minn., topped DMACC in assists with three apiece. Prince also had three steals in the win.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will play Southeastern (Iowa) Community College (SECC) today at West Burlington. Game time is 7 p.m.
