DMACC baseball team takes 8-7 decision from Marshalltown

 

Freshman Kaden Frommelt of Marion hit a two-run home run and sophomore Kannon Coakley of Maquoketa also drove in two runs as the DMACC baseball team defeated Marshalltown Community College (MCC), 8-7, April 10 at the DMACC baseball diamond.

 

The win was DMACC's 19th of the season against 16 losses and the Bears are 7-8 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

MCC took the lead with five runs in the top of the second and DMACC closed the gap to 5-3 with three runs in the bottom of the inning. It was a 6-3 game after MCC batted in the top of the third and DMACC tied it with three runs in the bottom of the fourth and opened up an 8-6 lead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. MCC got its final run in the top of the seventh.

 

Coakley and Frommelt highlighted DMACC's rally in the bottom of the second with an RBI single from Coakley and Frommelt's two-run home run. The Bears got an RBI single from sophomore Cael Boever of Sioux City in the fourth and scored their other two runs on an MCC error and a fly ball by sophomore Camden Kaufman of Waukee.

 

Freshman Jackson Manning of Keosauqua and Frommelt scored the DMACC runs in the bottom of the fifth. Manning led off the inning with a triple and scored on Coakley's sacrifice fly and Frommelt was hit by a pitch and scored on a double by sophomore Jaylen Ziegler of Urbandale.

 

Sophomore Jackson Horras of Pekin pitched into the second inning for DMACC. He allowed five runs on four hits, struck out one and walked one. Freshman Carter Woollums of Johnston relieved Horras and went six innings, allowing two runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and two walks. He came away with the win to improve to 2-1 for the season. Sophomore Eli Lehrman of Anamosa went an inning and a third, allowing two hits, striking out two and walking one and sophomore Jai Jensen of Clinton earned his first save of the season with two-thirds of an inning on the mound. He struck out the only two batters he faced.

 

The DMACC baseball team will play a three-game series against Ellsworth Community College (ECC) April 13 and 14 at the DMACC baseball diamond. The two teams will play a doubleheader on April 13 and a single game on April 14. ECC is 17-18 overall and 4-10 in the ICCAC.
