Four DMACC baseball players earn postseason honors

Four members of the DMACC baseball team have earned recognition on the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI All-Region Baseball Team announced today by the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

Freshman Jackson Fisher of Chariton was named to the first team as a catcher and freshmen Kaleb Krier of Altoona, Ben Nippolt of St. Paul, Minn., and Cadyn Schwabe of Thompson, N.D. were named to the second team, Krier as a starting pitcher, Nippolt as an infielder and Schwabe as an outfielder.

 

Fisher hit .301 with a .366 on-base percentage and a .491 slugging percentage this season. He had 65 hits in 216 at-bats, including 14 doubles, three triples and seven home runs. Fisher scored 52 runs, drove in 37 runs and stole 18 bases in 22 attempts.

 

Krier was 5-2 with two saves and a 2.88 earned run average in 2021. He threw 50 innings, allowing 26 runs (16 earned runs) on 48 hits, struck out 59 and walked 13. Krier averaged 10.62 strikeouts per nine innings pitched.

 

Nippolt compiled a .315 batting average with a .451 on-base percentage and a .429 slugging percentage. His 58 hits in 184 at-bats included 10 doubles, four triples and a home run. Nippolt scored 46 runs and drove in 42 runs. He had 12 stolen bases in 16 attempts.

Schwabe batted .302 with a .457 on-base percentage and a .439 slugging percentage. He had 64 hits in 212 at-bats, including eight doubles, six triples and three home runs. Schwabe scored 57 runs and drove in 35 runs. He led the Bears in stolen bases with 38 and was caught stealing three times.

 

The DMACC baseball team finished the season at 23-38 overall and 17-27 in the ICCAC. The Bears took a best two-of-three series from Southeastern Community College (SECC) in the postseason and advanced to the Region XI Four-Team Double-Elimination Tournament where they dropped back-to-back games to Kirkwood Community College (KCC) and Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) to see their season come to a close.
