DMACC baseball team takes doubleheader from ILCC

The DMACC baseball team ran its record to 20-28 overall and 16-20 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) by sweeping both games of a doubleheader against Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) April 27 at Estherville.

 

The Bears took the opener, 12-1, behind a combined two-hitter from sophomore Kaden Peterson of Luther and freshman Bret Price of Boone and came away with a 14-4 win in the second game.

 

Freshman Jake Thilges of Johnston belted a home run and drove in three runs to lift DMACC to its win in the first game. The Bears led 4-1 after the first inning and added four insurance runs in the fourth and sixth innings. The game was called because of the mercy rule after the Lakers batted in the bottom of the sixth.

 

Freshmen Cadyn Schwabe of Thompson, N.D., and Tre Mungin of Omaha, Neb., had two hits apiece, including one double each, and Mungin joined Thilges with three RBIs. Freshman Jackson Fisher of Chariton also doubled in the win.

 

Peterson pitched the first inning for the Bears, allowing one run with no hits. He struck out two batters and walked three. Price threw the final five innings and ran his record to 1-1 with the win. He allowed two hits, struck out six and walked one.

 

Freshmen Jayden Singleton of Des Moines and Kyle Westhoff of West Des Moines hit home runs and drove in four and three runs respectively in DMACC's win in the second game. The Bears led 2-1 after the first inning, 3-2 after three innings and broke a 3-3 tie with two runs in the sixth, seven runs in the eight and two runs in the ninth.

 

Freshman Ben Nippolt of St. Paul, Minn., had three hits in the win, including a triple, and Schwabe, Fisher, Westhoff and freshman Kaleb Harrison of Neola had two hits apiece. Nippolt and Schwabe, who also tripled, drove in two runs apiece.

 

Freshman Ray Ray Douglas of Sioux City pitched the first two innings for DMACC. He allowed one run on one hit, struck out five and walked two. Freshman Cole Kaufman of Waukee threw two and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on three hits. He struck out two and walked one. Freshman Greg Ryun of Victoria, Minn., went four and a third innings and got the win, his second against one loss. He allowed one run on two hits, struck out five and walked one.

 

The DMACC baseball team will play a doubleheader against Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) today at Norfolk, Neb. NECC is 27-21 overall and 21-13 in the ICCAC.
