DMACC baseball team sweeps doubleheader from Marshalltown Community College, 8-0 and 18-6

The DMACC baseball team ended a two-game losing streak with a pair of victories against Marshalltown Community College (MCC) April 6 at Marshalltown.

 

The Bears took the opener, 8-0, as freshman Kaleb Krier of Altoona tossed a two-hitter and freshmen Kaleb Harrison of Neola and Jayden Singleton of Des Moines each homered to lead DMACC to an 18-6 win in the second game.

 

With the wins, DMACC improved to 13-17 overall and 9-9 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

Freshmen Ben Nippolt of St. Paul, Minn., hit a pair of doubles and Harrison also doubled and both drove in two runs as the Bears took the first game. DMACC took a 1-0 lead in the third and put the game away with four runs in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh.

 

Nippolt and freshman Brett Berg of West Des Moines had two hits apiece for the Bears and freshman Jackson Fisher of Chariton added a double. Fisher, Berg and freshman Sam Nicolino of Des Moines drove in one run apiece.

 

Krier improved to 3-2 with the win. In addition to allowing just two hits, he struck out nine batters.

 

Nippolt, Fisher and freshman Cadyn Schwabe of Thompson, N.D., had four hits apiece and Nicolino added three as the Bears romped to the win in the second game. They trailed 4-0 after three innings and 4-2 after five innings before scoring five runs in the seventh, three in the eighth and eight in the ninth. DMACC's 24 hits included doubles by Schwabe, Nippolt, Fisher and freshman Kyle Westhoff of West Des Moines, triples by Schwabe and Nippolt and home runs from Harrison and Singleton.

 

Nippolt and Fisher drove in four runs apiece, Harrison had three RBIs, Nicolino and Singleton drove in two runs apiece and Berg and Westhoff had one RBI each.

 

Freshman Jarrett Novak of Gretna, Neb., pitched the first two and a third innings, allowing four runs on four hits. He struck out four and walked three. Freshman Blake Grevengoed of West Des Moines went two and a third innings, allowing three hits, striking out three batters and walking one. Freshman Ben Dixon of Sioux City got his first decision of the season with an inning and two-thirds on the mound. He allowed four runs on one hit, struck out two and walked one. Freshman Skout Lave of Ozark, Mo., pitched a third of an inning and walked one batter and freshman Greg Ryun of Victoria, Minn., worked two innings, allowing one hit and striking out three batters.

 

The DMACC baseball team will play Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) in doubleheaders April 10 and 11 at the DMACC baseball diamond.
