DMACC baseball team suffers 19-5 setback against IWCC

The DMACC baseball team fell to 5-8 for the season following a 19-5 loss to Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) March 10 at Council Bluffs.

 

IWCC, a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I program, is ranked 10th nationally. DMACC, a Division II program, is not ranked but has received votes in the Division II poll.

 

IWCC led the entire game. The Reivers took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, led 3-2 after two innings and 9-4 after five innings. They closed out the win with three runs in the seventh and six runs in the eighth.

 

Freshmen Jackson Fisher of Chariton and Brett Berg of West Des Moines led DMACC with two hits apiece, including a double by Fisher. Freshman Tre Mungin of Omaha, Neb., also doubled and Berg and sophomore Kaleb Harrison of Neola drove in two runs apiece.

 

Freshman Kaleb Krier of Altoona started on the mound for DMACC and went two and a third innings. He allowed four runs on five hits and struck out one. Freshman Jarrett Novak of Gretna, Neb., went two innings, allowing four runs on two hits. He struck out one and walked two. Freshman Jacob Norris of North Liberty gave up two runs on two hits, struck out four and walked one in an inning and two-thirds and freshman Greg Ryun of Victoria, Minn., allowed nine runs on six hits in an inning and two-thirds. He recorded two strikeouts and walked three. Freshman Cole Kaufman of Waukee pitched a third of an inning with no runs, hits, walks or strikeouts.

 

The DMACC baseball team will begin Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play March 17 when the Bears host Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) in a doubleheader at the DMACC baseball diamond. ILCC is 2-8 thus far in 2021.
