DMACC baseball team sweeps doubleheader against North Central Texas College

The DMACC baseball team improved to 2-2 for the season after winning both games in a doubleheader against North Central Texas College (NCTC) February 22 at Gainesville, Texas.

 

The Bears took the opener, 11-3, behind home runs from sophomore Kaleb Harrison of Neola and freshman Kyle Westhoff of West Des Moines. Harrison also homered in the nightcap to help DMACC to a 7-2 win.

 

The Bears trailed 2-2 after four innings and 3-2 after five innings in the opener but rallied for six runs in the top of the sixth and three runs in the top of the seventh to come away with the win.

 

Freshmen Cadyn Schwabe of Thompson, N.D., Carter Bornemeier of Elmwood, Neb., Westhoff and freshman Tre Mungin of Omaha, Neb., had two hits apiece including doubles by Westhoff and Mungin. Harrison collected three RBIs in the win and Schwabe, Westhoff and Mungin drove in two runs apiece.

 

Sophomore Hayden Thompson of Maple Grove, Minn., pitched five and a third innings and earned his first win of the season. He allowed three runs on seven hits, struck out four and walked four. Freshman Bret Price of Boone recorded a strikeout in two-thirds of an inning and freshman Jacob Norris of North Liberty struck out one batter in pitching one inning.

 

DMACC scored a run in the top of the first, five in the top of the second and another run in the top of the seventh to come away with the win in the second game.

 

Bornemeier and Harrison had two hits apiece and Harrison drove in two runs. Schwabe, Bornemeier and Westhoff had one RBI each.

 

Freshman Kaleb Krier of Altoona went the distance to pick up the win. He allowed two runs on five hits, struck out nine and walked two.

 

The DMACC baseball team faces NCTC in a single game today.
