DMACC baseball team to face NENEB or KCC in Region XI opener

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) baseball team will open the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI Baseball Championship against either Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NENEB) or Kirkwood Community College (KCC) May 10 at Clinton.

 

The Bears, who ended the season at 37-15 overall, won the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) regular season championship with a 21-7 record and are the tournament's No. 1 seed. They are currently ranked 19th in the NJCAA Division II poll.

 

NENEB and KCC will play at noon on May 9 and the winner will face DMACC at noon on May 10. DMACC took three of four games against both NENEB and KCC during the regular season.

 

The double-elimination tournament will continue through May 12 with the championship game slated for 6 p.m. on that date. A second championship game, if necessary, would be played at noon on May 13.

 

The Region XI champion will advance to the NJCAA North Plains District Baseball Tournament May 18 and 19 at the home of the Region 13 champion. The North Plains District champion will advance to the NJCAA Division II Baseball World Series May 25 to May 31 at Enid, Okla.
