The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) baseball team stepped away from Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Division II play to face Indian Hills Community College (IHCC) on April 10 and dropped a 17-9 decision to the Falcons.

IHCC is a Division I program in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and DMACC is in Division II of the NJCAA. Both teams are part of the ICCAC with IHCC in Division I and DMACC in Division II.

IHCC used multiple run innings to come away with the win. The Falcons scored three runs in the first inning, four in the fourth and five in the sixth. IHCC tallied just one run in the seventh and then put the game away with four runs in the eighth.

DMACC, which fell to 13-15 for the season, scored one run in the second, six runs in the fourth and two in the sixth.

Freshman Austin Murr of Denmark Township, Minn., paced DMACC's 12-hit attack with two hits, including a double, and three RBIs. Freshmen Calen Schwabe of Thompson, N.D., Austin Weiler of Olathe, Kan., Tavien Gillette of Rock Island, Ill., Robbie McCargar of West Des Moines and Hayden Fiala of Sioux Falls, S.D., also had two hits apiece with Weiler getting a home run. Schwabe and Weiler drove in two runs each.

Freshman Spencer Hanson of West Des Moines started on the mound for the Bears and worked just one inning, allowing three runs on four hits. He struck out one batter. Freshman Sam Laakso of Duluth, Minn., threw two and a third innings, allowing three runs on four hits with one strikeout and one walk and freshman Carlos Eusebio of Coral Springs, Fla., pitched an inning and two thirds and suffered his second loss of the season against no victories. He allowed four runs on three hits and walked four batters. Freshman Nate Holliday of Muscatine worked two innings, allowing three runs on two hits with one strikeout and one walk and Weiler gave up four runs on two hits and walked two batters, but was not credited with any innings pitched. Sophomore Matt Krambeck of Omaha, Neb., pitched one inning and struck out one batter.

The DMACC baseball team will face Southeastern Community College (SECC) in  doubleheaders April 13 and 16 at the DMACC baseball diamond. DMACC is 4-6 in the ICCAC. SECC is 25-9 overall and 8-4 in the ICCAC.
