DMACC BASEBALL TEAM SWEEPS DOUBLEHEADER FROM SECC

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) baseball team swept a doubleheader from Southeastern Community College (SECC) April 28 at Burlington.

 

The Bears won by scores of 6-3 and 7-4 to improved to 25-22 overall and 13-9 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). SECC began the day ranked 13th in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll and led the ICCAC with a 12-4 record.

 

Sophomore Parker Sanburn of Kokomo, Ind., tossed a one-hitter and struck out 10 in pitching the Bears to their win in the opener. Sanburn improved to 7-3 with the victory. Sophomore Luke Fegen of West Des Moines and freshman Jack Johnson of St. Paul, Minn., had two hits and one RBI apiece to pace DMACC at the plate. Sophomores Conner Klostermann of Dyersville and Nick Moffitt of West Des Moines also drove in runs for the Bears.

 

DMACC took a 1-0 lead in the first and added two runs in the third and one each in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings. SECC made it a 4-1 game with a run in the bottom of the fifth and scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh.

 

Sophomore Michael Michalak of Rochester, Minn., had two hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs as the Bears took the second game. Johnson, freshman Noah Heitshusen of Williamsburg and Moffitt also drove in runs for DMACC, which used a five-run rally in the fourth to come away with the win.

 

Sophomore Malik Moore of Waukee pitched the first seven innings and earned his fourth win of the season against three losses. He allowed three runs on seven hits, struck out five and walked one. Sophomore Jack Donahue of Marshfield, Wis., worked two innings, allowing one run on one hit. He walked one batter.

 

The DMACC baseball team will face SECC in another doubleheader tomorrow at West Burlington.
