DMACC BASEBALL TEAM SPLITS FOUR-GAME SERIES WITH ICCC

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) baseball team faced Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) in a four-game series April 22 and 23 at the DMACC baseball diamond and came away with a split of the four games.

 

ICCC scored a run in the top of the eighth to come away with a 2-1 decision in the opener on April 22 and DMACC took the nightcap in six innings, 11-1. ICCC also won the first game on April 23, 7-4, and DMACC scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth to win the second game, 13-12.

 

The split gives the Bears a 22-21 overall record and an 11-9 mark in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

DMACC was held to six hits by ICCC pitching in losing the first game on April 22. Sophomore Conner Klostermann of Dyersville and freshman Noah Heitshusen of Williamsburg had doubles in the game and freshman Jack Johnson of St. Paul, Minn., tripled. Sophomore Michael Michalak of Rochester, Minn., drove in the lone DMACC run.

 

Sophomore Parker Sanburn of Kokomo, Ind., pitched the first four and a third innings of no-hit ball for DMACC and allowed one run. He struck out seven and walked five. Freshman John Werner of Burlington threw three and a third innings and suffered his third loss of the season against one victory. Werner allowed one run on one hit, struck out four and walked two. Sophomore Jack Donahue of Marshfield, Wis., pitched a third of an inning and struck out the only batter he faced.

 

Sophomore Luke Fegen of West Des Moines had three hits and drove in a pair of runs to pace DMACC in the second game. Johnson and Heitshusen also had two hits apiece in the win and sophomores Sean Noel of Stillwater, Minn., and Nick Moffitt of West Des Moines each drove in two runs. DMACC led 4-0 after three innings and put the game away with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and five runs in the bottom of the sixth.

 

Sophomore Malik Moore of Waukee went the distance and leveled his record at 3-3 with the win. He allowed one run on nine hits, struck out three and did not walk any batters.

 
 

Klostermann had three hits and an RBI and Heitshusen drove in two runs as the Bears dropped the opener on April 23. DMACC led 3-2 after two innings, but a four-run rally in the top of the third put ICCC ahead 6-3 and the Tritons closed out the victory with a run in the top of the sixth.

 

Freshman T.J. Fetters of Pleasant Hill threw the first two and a third innings and took the loss, his first of the season against two victories. He allowed six runs on four hits, struck out one and walked one. Donahue threw two and two-thirds innings, allowing one run on three hits with a pair of strikeouts and a pair of walks and freshman Moise Carrasco of Daytona, Fla., worked threw two innings of hitless baseball.

 

Fegen and Michalak each homered to lead DMACC to its win in the final game of the series. Michalak had three hits and three RBIs in the win and Fegen and Johnson also had three hits apiece. Fegen, Noel and Klostermann each drove in two runs. DMACC used a six-run rally in the sixth to take a 10-4 lead, but ICCC scored twice in the seventh and six times in the eighth for a 12-10 lead. DMACC responded with a run in the eighth and two in the ninth to get the win.

 

Freshman Chris Witzke of Humboldt pitched the first two and a third innings, allowing two runs on three hits. He struck out two and walked two. Freshman Luke Longmuir of Cottage Grove, Minn., pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing one run on two hits with one strikeout and one walk. Freshman Alex Holcomb of Owatonna, Minn., pitched two innings, allowing two hits and striking out three batters and freshman Tyler Bujanowski of Oak Creek, Wis., allowed four runs on three hits, struck out two and walked two in two and two-thirds innings. Freshman Matt Krambeck of Omaha, Neb. faced four batters and surrendered four runs on three hits with one walk and Carrasco threw an inning and a third, allowing one hit and striking out two batters. He was credited with his first decision of the season.

 

The DMACC baseball team will host Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) in a doubleheader April 26 at the DMACC baseball diamond.
