Angelo Winkel; ICCAC Athlete of the Week

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC’s Angelo Winkel the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II men’s Basketball for the week of December 11 to 17.

 

Winkel, a sophomore from Algona, has been honored for the second time this season. He also earned the honor for the week of Nov. 1 to 12. And he is the third member of the DMACC men’s basketball team to be honored by the conference this season. Trey Lewis, a sophomore from Johnston, was honored the week of Nov. 13 to 19 and James Glenn, a sophomore from Altoona, was honored the week of Nov. 27 to Dec. 3.

 

Winkel recorded a double-double with 29 points and 11 rebounds in leading the Bears to a 90-76 win over Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) December 13 at Fort Dodge. He shot 93 percent from the field, making 14 of 15 field goal attempts.

 

The win, DMACC’s sixth straight, kept the Bears unbeaten in the ICCAC at 4-0 and improved their overall record to 13-1. DMACC is ranked fourth in the most recent Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).


Winkel has scored 230 points this season and leads the Bears with a 17.7 average. He is shooting 64 percent from the field, having made 95 of 149 field goal attempts. He is 4-of-24 from three-point range for 17 percent and is shooting 74 percent from the free throw line with 36 free throws in 49 attempts.

Winkel also leads DMACC in rebounding with 93 rebounds and a 7.2 average. His season also includes 18 blocked shots, 16 assists and seven steals
