DMACC women's golf team finishes eighth in Bulldog Spring Invite

 

The DMACC women's golf team came away with an eighth-place finish in the Bulldog Spring Invite April 2 and 3 at Highlands Golf Course in Lincoln, Neb.

 

Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) captured the team championship with a 54-hole score of 998 and DMACC was eighth at 1,088. DMACC and IWCC were the only two community colleges playing in the 13-team tournament.

 

Sofia Castelan of Morningside University (MU) and Baylie Pyke of IWCC tied for medalist honors with 54-hole totals of 234. Castelan shot rounds of 76, 80 and 78 over the par-72 layout and Pyke posted scores of 77, 80, 77.

 

Sophomore Erin Winker of Carroll led DMACC with a 267 on rounds of 85, 94 and 88. She tied for 21st place in the individual competition. Anna van Hemert of Eindhoven, Netherlands and Meg Thompson of Greene tied for 27th and 38th respectively. Freshman van Hemert posted rounds of 91, 94 and 85 and sophomore Thompson turned in scores of 86, 95 and 93.

 

Other DMACC results included a 44th-place finish for freshman Viola Welsh of Fairfield, a tie for 69th for freshman Lilly Houtakker of Solon and an 80th-place finish for freshman Halle Hagberg of Polk City.

 

Welsh shot rounds of 93, 89 and 95 for a 54-hole score of 227. Houtakker finished at 297 on rounds of 104, 95 and 98 and Hagberg posted scores of 112, 109 and 103 for a 54-hole total of 324.

 

The DMACC women's golf team will play in the ICCC Spring Invite April 12 and 13 at the Fort Dodge Country Club in Fort Dodge.
