DMACC women's golf team gets second place in Evangel Spring Invite
  • Sophomore Erin Winker leads DMACC with a fourth-place finish

Sophomore Erin Winker of Carroll improved by 12 strokes in the second round to lead the DMACC women's golf team to a second-place in the Evangel Spring Invite March 11 and 12 at Fremont Hills Country Club in Nixa, Mo.

 

Winker turned in an 11-over-par 82 in the second round after shooting a 94 in the first round, tying for fourth place in the individual competition. Her score helped the Bears to a 358 in the second round and a 36-hole total of 449. Evangel University (EU) won the title with a 399.

 

Winker's round gave her a 36-hole score of 176, good for fourth place. Suzanne Blackwell of EU won medalist honors with a 162 total.

 

Winker led four DMACC golfers to top 10 finishes and two other players barely missed the top 10. Freshman Anne Van Hemert of Eindhoven, Netherlands, finished sixth, freshman Annie Burns of Algona was seventh and sophomore Meg Thompson of Greene tied for ninth.

 

Van Hemert shot an 89 in the second round and finished the 36-hole tournament at 182. Burns posted a 90 to go with a 94 in the first round and closed with a 184 and Thompson shot 97 on the second day for a two-day total of 191.

DMACC freshmen Alexis Barber of Newell and Lilly Houtakker of Solon were 11th and 12th respectively. Barber's second round 98 gave her a 36-hole score of 196 and Houtakker finished at 200 following a 95 in the second round.

 

The DMACC women's golf team will play in the ICCC Spring Invite April 12 at the Fort Dodge Country Club in Fort Dodge.
