DMACC women's golf team finishes third in NIACC Invite
  • Sophomore Meg Thompson leads DMACC with a sixth-place finish
  • Freshman Annie Burns places seventh
  • All four DMACC golfers shoot 81 or better

 

Sophomore Meg Thompson of Greene shot a five-over-par 77 and finished sixth to lead the DMACC women's golf team to a third-place finish in the NIACC Invite September 26 at Highland Park Golf Course in Mason City.

 

The Bears finished the 18-hole tournament with 316 strokes, nine strokes behind the winning total of 307 by Waldorf University. Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) was second with 313 strokes.

 

Other DMACC results included a seventh place by freshman Annie Burns of Algona. Freshman Anne van Hemert of Eindhoven, Netherlands tied for ninth and freshman Viola Welsh of Fairfield tied for 11th. Burns turned in a six-over-par 78, van Hemert shot an 80 and Welsh posted an 81.

 

The performance by the DMACC women marked the first time in school history that four players have shot 81 or better in a tournament and the 316 strokes sets a new school record.

 

DMACC freshmen Halle Hagberg of Polk City and Lilly Houtakker of Solon also competed in the tournament. Hagberg tied for 16th with an 84 and Houtakker tied for 19th with an 86.

 

The DMACC women's golf team will play in the Waldorf Invite Sept. 29 at Rice Lake Golf Course in Lake Mills.
