DMACC's Ashley Michel takes medalist honors in Columbia Invite; Bears finish fourth

Sophomore Ashley Michel of Nassau, Bahamas, took medalist honors with a three-over-par 75 and the DMACC women's golf team finished fourth in the Columbia College Invite March 6 at the Columbia Country Club in Columbia, Mo.

 

The Bears shot a 374 in their 2022-23 spring season opener. Columbia College (CC), which hosted the tournament, won the team championship with 323 strokes.

 

Michel's 75 gave her a two-stroke advantage over Maria Ortiz Rozo of William Wood University (WWU). Three CC golfers, Emily Strunck, Ashlyn Sanders and Cassidy McAlpine, tied for third with six-over-par 78s.

 

Other DMACC results included a 17th-place finish by freshman Meg Thompson of Greene and a 19th-place finish by freshman Kaylin Petrak of Grimes. Thompson shot a 97 and Petrak turned in a 100.

 

DMACC sophomore Dani Nolde of Ogallala, Neb., and freshman Erin Winker of Carroll tied for 21st, each shooting 102.

 

The DMACC women's golf team is scheduled to play in the Ron Streck Invitational March 13 and 14 at Meadowbrook Country Club in Tulsa, Okla
