DMACC women's basketball team defeats MCC, 100-50
  • Seven players score in double figures in lopsided win
  • Freshmen Reanna Hutchinson and Jaden Ainley lead the way with 13 points apiece

Seven players scored in double figures as the DMACC women's basketball team closed out Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play with a 100-50 win over Marshalltown Community College (MCC) February 25 at Marshalltown.

 

Freshmen Reanna Hutchinson of Eau Claire, Wis., and Jaden Ainley of Clear Lake with the Bears with 13 points apiece. Sophomore Jensen Archibald of Martinsdale had 11 points and Covid-19 sophomores (CoSO) Lexi Branning of Manning and Jadeyn Smith of Arcadia and freshmen Rebekah Fuller of Bondurant and Chassidy Henwood of Newton scored 10 points apiece.

 

With the win, DMACC improved to 19-10 overall and 9-7 in the ICCAC. The Bears are all but guaranteed a four-place finish in conference play.

 

DMACC had just an 18-17 lead at the end of the first quarter but took control of the game by outscoring MCC 30-13 in the second period for a 48-30 advantage at halftime. If there was any doubt about the outcome, it was erased in the third period when the Bears scored 33 points and held the Tigers to just four for an 81-34 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

 

DMACC shot 53 percent in the win, making 39 of 74 field goal attempts, The Bears were 6-of-21 from three-point range and 16-of-20 from the free throw line.

 

DMACC also dominated the boards, coming away with a 53-21 advantage. Henwood and sophomore Reagan Franzen of Polk City led the Bears with seven rebounds apiece and Smith and Ainley each had six rebounds. Smith led DMACC in assists with six and Archibald and Ainley had three steals apiece.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will close out the regular season against North Central Missouri College (NCMC) Feb. 28 at Trenton, Mo.
