DMACC women's basketball team falls to Kirkwood CC, 72-55

Freshmen Reanna Hutchinson of Eau Claire, Wis., and Jaden Ainley of Clear Lake scored 19 and 10 points respectively as the DMACC women's basketball team dropped a 72-55 decision to Kirkwood Community College (KCC) February 23 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

The loss was the 10th of the season against 17 wins for the Bears. DMACC is 8-7 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

The Bears trailed 15-13 at the end of the first quarter but were outscored 17-11 in the second period and trailed at halftime, 32-24. KCC outscored DMACC 22-15 in the third period for a 54-39 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

 

The Bears shot 33 percent, hitting 16 of 49 field goal attempts. They were 5-of-18 from three-point range and 18-of-28 from the free throw line.

 

KCC came away with a 31-30 advantage in rebounding with sophomore Reagan Franzen of Polk City pulling down nine rebounds to lead DMACC. Hutchinson and Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Camry Jones of Okoboji had five rebounds apiece. Freshman Kennedy Jones of Oak Park, Ill., topped the Bears in assists with three and Hutchinson led the way in steals with two.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will close out conference play Feb. 25 at Marshalltown. The Tigers are 0-22 for the season and 0-14 in the ICCAC. The Bears came away with a 93-34 win when the two teams played Jan. 14 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
