Jaden Ainley leads DMACC women's basketball team past ECC, 70-51

 

Freshman Jaden Ainley of Clear Lake scored 20 points to lead the DMACC women's basketball team to a 70-51 win over Ellsworth Community College (ECC) February 18 at Iowa Falls.

 

Three other DMACC players scored in double figures as the Bears improved to 17-9 overall and 8-6 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). Freshman Jensen Archibald of Martinsdale had 11 points and Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Camry Jones of Okoboji and freshman Reanna Hutchinson of Eau Claire, Wis. came away with 10 points apiece.

 

Ainley's 20 points came on 6-of-11 shooting from the field, including hitting four of eight attempts from beyond the arc. She was perfect at the free throw line, making all four of her attempts.

 

DMACC, which swept its season series with ECC, trailed 15-14 at the end of the first quarter but took control of the game by outscoring the Panthers 19-10 in the second period for a 33-25 advantage at halftime. The Bears had a 52-40 lead at the end of the third quarter.

 

DMACC shot 40 percent in the win with 25 field goals in 62 attempts. The Bears were 7-of-25 from three-point range and 14-of-20 from the free throw line.

 

Jones picked up a double-double with 11 rebounds as DMACC came away with a 46-24 advantage on the boards. Sophomore Reagan Franzen of Polk City also had 11 rebounds and Hutchinson grabbed seven. Freshman Kennedy Jones of Oak Park, Ill., dished out a team-high six assists and Archibald had four assists and led the Bears in steals with two.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will be home to Kirkwood Community College (KCC) Feb. 22. Game time is 5:30 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. KCC leads the ICCAC at 12-1 and is 23-2 overall. The Eagles, ranked fourth in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), defeated DMACC 75-47 when the two teams played Dec. 17 at Cedar Rapids.
