DMACC women's basketball team drops 86-52 decision to IWCC

Sophomore Reagan Franzen leads DMACC with 12 points and 12 rebounds

Sophomore Reagan Franzen of Polk City recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds and Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Camry Jones of Okoboji had 11 points as the DMACC women's basketball team fell to Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) 86-52 February 15 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

The loss gives the Bears a 16-9 overall record and a 7-6 mark in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

IWCC, ranked fifth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, led throughout the game. The Reivers had a 12-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and held a 41-27 advantage at halftime. They were up 67-36 at the end of the third quarter.

 

DMACC shot just 28 percent in the loss, making 17 of 61 field goal attempts. The Bears were just 1-of-12 from three-point range and made 17 of 31 free throw attempts.

 

IWCC came away with a 40-34 advantage in rebounding. In addition to Franzen's 12 rebounds, the Bears got four each from freshmen Kennedy Jones of Oak Park, Ill., Rebekah Fuller of Bondurant and Jaden Ainley of Clear Lake. Ainley and Jones topped DMACC in steals with two apiece.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will play Ellsworth Community College (ECC) February 18 at Iowa Falls. ECC is 4-19 overall and 1-12 in the ICCAC. DMACC

defeated the Panthers 82-58 when the two teams played Jan. 21 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
