Lakers End Bears Six Game Winning Streak

 

Freshman Jensen Archibald of Martinsdale scored a team-high 13 points as the DMACC women's basketball team dropped a 64-56 decision to Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) February 11 at Estherville.

 

Freshmen Reanna Hutchinson of Eau Claire, Wis., and Rebekah Fuller of Bondurant tallied 12 points apiece and sophomore Reagan Franzen of Polk City came away with 11 points as the Bears fell to 16-8 overall and 7-5 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). The loss ended a six-game winning streak for DMACC.

 

The game was close all the way. The two teams were tied at 11 at the end of the first quarter and the first half ended in a 29-29 tie. ILCC outscored the Bears 17-16 in the third quarter and 18-11 in the fourth quarter to get the win.

 

DMACC shot just 32 percent from the field, making 20 of 62 field goal attempts. The Bears were 4-of-18 from three-point range and 12-of-18 from the free throw line.

 

ILCC had a 37-29 advantage in rebounding with Hutchinson's nine rebounds leading DMACC. Franzen finished with six rebounds and freshman Jaden Ainley of Clear Lake had five. Archibald led the Bears in assists and steals with three each.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will play Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) Feb. 15. Game time is 5:30 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. IWCC is 20-3 overall and 10-2 in the ICCAC. The Reivers were 66-51 winners when the two teams played Jan. 17 at Council Bluffs.
