DMACC women's basketball team defeats GVUJV, 73-62, for sixth straight win

 

Freshman Reanna Hutchinson of Eau Claire, Wis., scored 21 points as the DMACC women's basketball team ran its winning streak to six consecutive games with a 73-61 decision against the Grand View University Junior Varsity (GVUJV) February 7 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Freshmen Jensen Archibald of Martinsdale and Rebeka Fuller of Bondurant also reached double figures with 15 and 10 points respectively as the Bears improved to 16-7 for the season. The win was also DMACC's 10th in the last 11 games.

 

The Bears led throughout the game. It was 20-14 at the end of the first quarter, 36-27 at halftime and 51-38 at the end of the third quarter.

 

DMACC got the win behind 46 percent shooting. The Bears made 30 of 65 field goal attempts, including 5-of-17 from three-point range. They were 8-of-13 free throw attempts.

 

DMACC came away with 40 rebounds in the game, including 28 defensive rebounds. Sophomore Reagan Franzen of Polk City led the Bears with seven rebounds and Hutchinson had six. Sophomore Jadeyn Smith of Arcadia and freshman Kennedy Jones of Oak Park, Ill., had five apiece. Jones topped DMACC in assists with five and Archibald led the way in steals with five.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team returns to Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play Feb. 11 when the Bears face Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) at Estherville. DMACC is 7-4 in conference play. ILCC is 14-9 overall and 6-4 in the conference. DMACC defeated the Lakers 68-66 when the two teams played Dec. 10 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
