DMACC women's basketball team defeats ICCC 60-55 for fifth straight win

 

The DMACC women's basketball team pushed its winning streak to five consecutive games with a 60-55 win over Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) February 4 at Fort Dodge.

 

Sophomore Reagan Franzen of Polk City scored a team-high 14 points and freshmen Rebekah Fuller of Bondurant and Reanna Hutchinson of Eau Claire, Wis., added 12 and 11 points respectively as the Bears improved to 15-7 overall and 7-4 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

In addition to winning their last five games, the Bears have won nine of their last 10 games.

 

DMACC took control of the game in the first quarter when the Bears outscored the Tritons 18-7 to head into the second quarter with an 11-point lead. DMACC was up 32-14 at halftime but was outscored 18-10 in the third period and led 42-36 after three quarters.

 

The Bears shot 39 percent in the win, hitting 22 of 56 field goal attempts. They were 4-of-16 from three-point range and 12-of-19 from the free throw line.

DMACC limited ICCC to 26 percent shooting as the Tritons made just 17 of 65 field goal attempts, including 4-of-17 from three-point range. They made 17 of 24 free throw attempts.

 

Franzen, Hutchinson, freshman Jaden Ainley of Clear Lake and Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Camry Jones of Okoboji had six rebounds apiece as DMACC came away with a 45-41 advantage on the boards. Freshman Kennedy Jones of Oak Park, Ill., topped the Bears in assists with three and Franzen led the way in steals and blocked shots with two each.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will be looking for its sixth straight win when it hosts the Grand View University Junior Varsity (GVUJV) Feb. 7 inside the DMACC gymnasium. Game time is 7 p.m.
