Hutchinson, Ainley lead DMACC women's basketball team past NECC, 78-56

Freshmen Reanna Hutchinson of Eau Claire, Wis., and Jaden Ainley of Clear Lake combined for 41 points to lead the DMACC women's basketball team to a 78-56 win over Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) February 1 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Hutchinson scored 22 points and Ainley had 19 points to go with 10 rebounds and five assists as the Bears improved to 14-7 overall and 6-4 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). DMACC extended its winning streak to four games and the Bears have won eight of their last nine games. The win avenged a 69-67 loss to NECC Dec. 7 at Norfolk, Neb.

 

Freshman Rebekah Fuller of Bondurant also reached double figures with 12 points.

 

DMACC was in control throughout the game, leading 23-6 at the end of the first quarter and 39-16 at halftime. The Bears pushed their advantage to 62-38 at the end of the third quarter.

 

DMACC shot 59 percent in the game, hitting 31 of 53 field goal attempts. The Bears were 8-of-20 from three-point range and 8-of-12 from the free throw line.

 

Ainley's 10 rebounds, seven from Fuller and six from sophomore Reagan Franzen of Polk City lifted DMACC to a 34-26 advantage on the boards. Hutchinson came away with four assists and freshman Jensen Archibald of Martinsdale topped the Bears in steals with three. Hutchinson and Franzen had two steals apiece.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will face Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) Feb.4 at Fort Dodge. The Tritons are 13-9 overall and 6-5 in the ICCAC. DMACC was a 75-52 winner over ICCC when the two teams squared off Jan. 11 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
