DMACC women's basketball team gets easy win over WPUJV, 91-48

Freshman Jaden Ainley of Clear Lake led five players in double figures with 17 points as the DMACC women's basketball team rolled to a 91-48 win over the William Penn University Junior Varsity (WPUJV) January 27 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Lexi Branning of Manning had 13 points, CoSO Camry Jones of Okoboji and freshman Jensen Archibald of Martinsdale contributed 11 points apiece and freshman Chassidy Henwood of Newton finished with 10 points as the Bears improved to 13-7 with their third consecutive victory and their seventh win in their last eight games.

 

DMACC led throughout the game. The Bears had just a 15-13 advantage at the end of the first quarter but outscored WPUJV 24-12 in the second period for a 39-25 lead at halftime. DMACC had a 62-39 lead at the end of the third quarter.

 

The Bears shot 60 percent in the win, making 33 of 55 field goal attempts. They were 7-of-17 from three-point range and 18-of-26 from the free throw line.

 

DMACC had a 36-22 advantage in rebounding with Ainley's six rebounds leading the way. Branning had five and Henwood and sophomore Reagan Franzen of Polk City finished with four apiece. Ainley also topped DMACC in assists with four and in steals with six.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will play Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) Feb. 1 inside the DMACC gymnasium. DMACC is 5-4 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). NECC is 12-8 overall and 5-5 in the ICCAC. NECC defeated the Bears, 69-67, when the two teams played Dec. 7 at Norfolk, Neb.
