DMACC women's drops 75-47 decision to KCC

The DMACC women's basketball team saw its record level out at 6-6 and the Bears are 1-3 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) following a 75-47 loss to Kirkwood Community College (KCC) December 17 at Cedar Rapids.

 

DMACC stayed reasonably close in the opening half, trailing 15-6 at the end of the first quarter and 34-24 at halftime, but the Eagles, the defending national champions, and the top-ranked team in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, outscored the Bears 27-10 in the third period to open up a 61-34 advantage heading into the fourth quarter. KCC opened the quarter with a 16-2 run for a 50-26 lead with more than three minutes remaining in the period.

 

Freshman Reanna Hutchinson of Eau Claire, Wis., led DMACC with 12 points and freshmen Jensen Archibald of Martinsdale and Jaden Ainley of Clear Lake had seven and six points respectively.

 

The Bears shot 41 percent in the loss, making 16 of 39 field goal attempts. They were 6-of-20 from three-point range and 7-of-14 from the free throw line.

 

KCC had a 40-31 advantage in rebounding with Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Camry Jones of Okoboji leading DMACC with six rebounds. Ainley had five rebounds and she and sophomore Reagan Franzen of Polk City led the Bears in assists with three apiece. Jones topped DMACC in steals with three.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team is idle until Jan. 10 when the Bears will host Iowa Central Community College (ICCC). ICCC is 8-5 overall and 2-3 in the ICCAC.
